Farmyards – The Association With Contemporary Jewellery
Red Rooster Features on Contemporary Jewellery
Ola Gorie is fabled for her diverse range from contemporary jewellery to time honored while a few merge current day designs with age old designs. One such range emanates from Chaucer’s fable; Chanticleer and the Fox, which may be seen on this jewelry website.
The Chanticleer pendant and charm shows a stylised rooster greeting the dawn. This story has held generations of book lovers in its thrall for many centuries since medieval days. The story has been recreated in various forms, which includes this contemporary jewellery.
It has been compared with Aesop’s fable of The Fox and the Crow. The story goes that the rooster Chanticleer lives with his 3 wives on a rich man’s farm. He is warned beforehand in a vision of his capture by a predator but decides to ignore the premonition. Renart the fox tries to fool Chanticleer by praising the singing of the cock’s father and revealing to him that to sing similarly he should close his big eyes as he extends his throat to crow.
Contemporary Jewellery Rich in Charm
But when Chanticleer does that, the fox grabs him and makes a run for the forest, pursued by the farm laborers as well as a mastiff. Chanticleer advises the fox needs to turn round and defy them, but once he opens his mouth to accomplish this Chanticleer flies up to safety in a sapling. Both have been beaten by their pride.
Geoffrey Chaucer authored a variant of the fairy tale in The Nun’s Priest’s Tale, a section of The Canterbury Tales, written about 1390. A century later the Scottish poet Robert Henryson produced his version, The Taill of Schir Chanticleir and the Foxe.
There have already been musical settings of the fable and in the children’s storybook Chanticleer and the Fox, Barbara Cooney retold The Nun’s Priest’s Tale, using her very own pictures in 1958. There is an additional 1990 cartoon feature film Rock-a-Doodle based upon it, that has got little connection with the original.
Whatever the storyline version you have heard, from story to song to cartoon, Chanticleer and the Fox is a delightful story which teaches us that self-importance comes before a fall. It’s a fun method of getting the message across. Ola Gorie’s contemporary jewellery style of Chanticleer is not really so much as an example of exquisite pieces of stunning silver or gold. The rooster crows to greet the dawn, as seen on our jewellery site.
